DNMAC Forum

Just a reminder that the old forum was deleted mid 2013 and a new forum was installed. Because of this members had to re-register for the forum (Name and membership number is required). The club is making a lot of changes hopefully developing its venues at the moment but we could do with some constructive feedback or just good old fashioned debate.

Some of the less computer savvy members have asked me to show them how to navigate around the forum, blog and website and if there is enough interest and a suitable venue can be found I will probably do this in early 2014.

Have a good New Year

Locking Gates !!

Could we just remind people that when fishing on DNMAC secured venues to close and LOCK the gates behind when you are entering and exiting club waters.

There have been a few unfortunate instances where members of the public have pushed their way past the fence or simply walked through an open gate and onto the property.

Apart from insurance requirements the gates and fences have been installed for your and other club members’ safety and to protect our waters from damage and misuse.

2014 Lock Changes

Please note that the locks on our waters will change after 1st January. However, as this is not an automated process, the old code should be retained just in case our bailiffs have not got around to changing the code. Would you fancy walking down to Linnets with a New Years Eve killer hangover?

The new code is in the 2014 book which must be bought, signed and have photo inserted before accessing any of our waters. All non-anglers, unless on Club business or with Committee permission must have a non-fishing membership card when on private property.

Have a great New Year

December 2013 Club Newsletter

A DNMAC electronic newsletter has been sent to all members who registered a (legible) email address when purchasing their 2013 Club Book. If you haven’t received it check your SPAM folder. The newsletter highlights the Club’s work and activities of the past year.

A limited number of paper copies are available at some of our outlets and a copy will be available in the forum.

If you would like a copy sent to you, email your name and membership number to admin@dnmac.org.uk or, alternatively, send a self-addressed envelope to DNMAC C/O Simpson's Tackle, Old Road, Whaley Bridge, High Peak, SK23 7HS.

The decision was made not to send a paper copy to members due to the cost of mailing – nearly £400 which the committee felt could be put to better use elsewhere. Obviously anyone wanting to know the full activities of DNMAC can attend the monthly Club Open Meetings detailed in the Membership Book.

Happy Christmas and tight lines for the New Year

2014 Club books available now.

Club books, non-fishing memberships and night syndicates are now available. Night syndicate books are available from the membership secretary, Simpsons Tackle and the Fisheries officer.
What a perfect Xmas present they’d make!
There have been a few rule changes and a general tidy up of the book so please make sure you read it carefully before fishing.

Please note for January no 2014 book and no photo = no fishing.

Strines Work Party Thanks - 15/12/2013

The Strines Work Party had a reasonable turnout of 10 members including a few new faces and a junior.

The main focus of the work was to rebuild the lake wall on the roadside of Dovecotes Lodge before we divert the water back into the lake. Unfortunately this wasn’t as easy a job as it sounds as most of the stone had fallen into the lake and over the years, become embedded in the build-up of silt.

The work completed today was truly astonishing given that, this close to Christmas and in mid-December, most people would probably have somewhere better to be.

A big thanks to all those who turned up and also to everybody who brought hot drinks, sandwiches and along especially the mini apple pies that were very well appreciated.

There is still plenty of work required and an estimated two further work parties will be required in January. These dates will be organised soon and posted on the blog, but will not be in the new Club book which is at the printers at the time of writing.

Thanks again and have a good Christmas.

Chris

Dovecotes Work Party

The excavation work at Dovecotes is almost complete, this means water will diverted back into the lake which will also allow the Club to do necessary testing for leaks on the new sluice.

On Sunday the 15th December, Chis Simpson is holding a work party to remove stones and repair the pegs on the road side bank. 10:00am start.

If any members can spare a few hours to help improve a fishery that we hope will become a great asset to the Club we would be very grateful.

A work party stamp will be available for those that have not yet had chance to attend a 2013 work party.

Wear clothing suitable for the work expected and time of year, gloves, waders or wellies will be required.

Please e-mail workparties@dnmac.org.uk if you can attend.

May I also take this opportunity to say a personal thank you to all those members who have attend work parties this year.

THANK YOU

Bowden fish boost

One of the questions at the AGM was what were the results of the netting / water tests carried out by the EA.

We received the results that the tests all came back OK and on Saturda 30th November, with just a few hours’ notice, that the EA were planning to deliver 1500 pure crucians in the 4-6inch range.

Hopefully these will grow on well and with the addition of a few more species, tench being the preferred fish, turn this fishery into a top pleasure fishing water. I was fishing with Bowden Fisheries Manager Paul Bacon and Membership Secretary John Ling, when Secretary Chris Simpson phoned with the news so we missed the stocking but Chris took a few fish pics. We were though delighted with the news especially Paul.

On behalf of all Club Members we would like to thank Paul Bennett and his EA team for all their efforts

A great result justifying the efforts put in on this water.

Ian

PS if you do fish this water remember barbless hooks only and please treat these fish with respect so they can grow into nice big true strained crucians J

AGM - Update

All 4 proposed items were passed at the AGM. The Club book has also been re-written for 2014 hopefully making the Club’s rules a lot easier to understand. Please make sure you read the book prior to fishing.

A non-fishing membership will be available from 2014.

Details of this and other changes will be discussed in the member’s only forum.

Watford Lodge / River Sett drains update.

Thanks to everyone who has been involved in reporting of this incident. We have been informed that a temporary cap will be installed ASAP, with a permanent solution to be completed by January.

Water Updates

Although the fishing is tailing off with the colder weather, which sees the majority of anglers hanging up their rods until next spring, work still continues on DNMAC venues.

Today Chris Simpson, Paul Bacon and Ian Gould joined the EA officers at Bowden Lake for a sample netting and water quality tests. The results of these tests together with the invaluable advice of the EA will help us structure our plans for the development of this pictureque fishery.

After the EA visit work was continued at the Strines complex and it was good to see progress being made on this venue.

More details will be available soon and a general update will be given at the AGM.

October 12th DNMAC Fur & Feather, Blake Hall Fisheries

Rather than fish this year’s Fur & Feather at one of the Club’s own waters it was decided to fish the, Simpson’s Tackle, sponsored match at a commercial venue; hopefully giving a few more bites at a time of the year when the fish are starting to slow down.
The change in venue was also coupled with a change in attitude towards the match and instead of the usual group of die hard match men the competition was to be more of a social event with numbers bolstered by a large number of juniors, pleasure fishermen and even the odd specimen angler, many of whom were fishing their first match.
The weather was particularly unpleasant with a constant light rain and strong winds, although Blake Pool does benefit from the shelter of a large number of trees. However, onsite facilities are excellent with the option of a big breakfast before fishing and warming stew provided to all anglers at the post match presentation.

Fishing was hard, although nearly 15lb was needed to frame. From the off it was obvious that carp would play a major hand in the results, with most anglers prepared to sit it out for one or two big fish which, unfortunately, didn’t materialise for many anglers.

First was Keith Riley whose 26lb 8oz bag was over 5lb heavier than runner up, Club President, Steve Rowe. Darren Blayden came 3rd with 19lb 12oz and Graham Howe took the final place with 14lb 12oz.

Pete Lally, Ben Fowler, James Maydard, Declan Butler, Phil Povey and Chris Simpson were the section winners.
Thanks to the staff at Blake Hall, Mrs Robinson for the excellent cakes and Chris Simpson for doing all the hard work.  It is intended to stick with the same format for next year but to change venue annualy with Ashbornes’ Birch House Lakes a possible venue.
