Strines Update

As we all know the project at Strines this year has turned out to be a mammoth job but we are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Many of you would of seen the JCB in dovecotes and along with two 9 ton dumpers the job of removing the heavy build-up of silt from the site has begun. So far a staggering 1200 (yes twelve hundred) tons have been removed and it’s looking like we're nearly half way there.

At this point we'd like to say a massive thank to SRG who have been working hard with DNMAC to get the best possible future for all involved.

Keep checking the blog for more updates.

Bowden Lake update

Bowden Hall Lake may not have a huge number of carp but those that are there along with the resident bream shoal are in superb condition.

Paul Bacon, Bowden Fishery Manager, caught this stunning 15lb common carp (a new fish to Paul) and a 9lb ghosty, on a short session this afternoon fishing a 15mm cell boilie tipped with rubber corn.

Grouse car park closed 25th August

The Grouse Public House car park will be closed to all anglers on Sunday 25th August. Please park elsewhere if you intend to fish Birch Vale on this date BUT not in front of the pub. If you are planning on fishing Saturday do not leave your car in the Grouse car park

There is parking available on the main road or as you turn down the hill towards Thornsett.

Gusting winds made today's junior match, held on Watford Lodge, quite challenging for our young anglers, but with some sensible rigs and bait presentation, the fish where biting for most of the day.

Ben fowler took the honours by alternating pole fished maggot and small pieces of worm over chopped worm.

1st Ben Fowler 2lb 1oz worm on the pole
2nd Dylan Smith 1lb 1oz maggot on the waggler
3rd Alan Hoose 15oz maggot on the waggler

Disley Dam Weed Update

Just to let everyone know that we are working hard on trying to keep the weed off Disley Dam. We are finalising some long term plans to prevent the weed in future years and improve the fishing, but also will be introducing chemicals over the next few days to remove the algae which is currently preventing weed cutting.
Unfortunately this isn’t just a problem with Disley Dam and many other waters across the country are also suffering with this problem reducing availability of chemicals.

Jonathon Stanton found space amongst the weed to catch this nice carp, proving that the fish are still there to be caught.

A great turn out for today's Junior Day on Watford lodge with the added bonus of a few new faces, which bodes well for the future of fishing for the Club.

The match got off to a great start but, as so often happens, sport slowed down during the middle of the day.

Zac Bates took the 1st spot, pole fishing double maggot fished over sloppy Swim-Stim groundbait.

1st Zac Bates 4lb 0oz maggot over groundbait
2nd Josh Pender 1lb 9oz maggot no groundbait
3rd Sam Butler 12oz maggot

As well as the match there was number of juniors being receiving a day’s coaching. Young Isaac, pictured below, caught this cracking Watford bream on the drop on his first cast …. Oh what it was like to be a beginner!
