Watford Lodge – Traffic lights and drain repairs.

Work is eventually taking place on the sewgage/drainage issues around Watford Lodge. We have contacted the council and there will be temporary traffic lights erected for a “short” time. This will affect parking at the Lodge but there will still be plenty of parking available. Please park safely and sensibly and hopefully this issue will be resolved soon.

Those people who have been fishing the Lodge have been having some successful winter sport.

Bowden Hall Stocking

Today saw another stocking at Bowden Hall with help, yet again, from our friends at the EA, who have been little short of brilliant this year. Today we stocked over 4,500 (yes over four thousand five hundred) small skimmer bream ranging from 3-6 inches.

All these fish are in their second year and will hopefully grow 1-3 inches a year. Reaching a good size in a few year’s time.  These fish compliment the 1,500 true strain, crucian carp stocked into Bowden in December. That’s 6000 new fish this winter to boost the existing fish stocks.

To get the best from these stocks in the future all anglers must be very careful while handling these juvenile fish. Remember ALL club waters are strictly barbless hooks only. Water manager Paul Bacon will be checking anglers hooks!

Dovecoates Update & help wanted for 26th January

Work continued again on the Strines Project with the completion of the tyre refuges which will be able to use as large scale planters and more importantly provide fish with areas that they can escape from any predatory birds. They’ll also give anglers a few features to fish to as well!

10 attended the WP and we completed approximately 15 of these mini islands.

Last work party before we divert the water back in is next Sunday, 26th January @ 9:00am. We could do with as many bodies as possible. Contact Chris Simpson for details. (contact details in the Club book)

Tyres were screwed together, filled with large stones and gravel and back filled with silt, waiting to be planted.

Hard work but it'll be worth it

I'm 6'2" without my high heels. This picture shows how much deeper the lake is after the
removal of lots of silt. Previously it would of only been a few feet deep here.

Thanks again thanks for the refreshments.

Strines Update

Work continues at Strines, with over 100 tyres being added to form islands and lilly beds, The picture below shows the first few tyres in position, others have been placed to allow mini features between 6 and 10 meters.

Just a reminder that the next work party here is Sunday 19th January @ 9:00am.

It’s muddy down there so please bring appropriate clothing, but the Club really needs help on this venue so we can get the levels back up ASAP.

Strines Additional work Parties.

As previously mentioned there are to be two additional Strines/Dovecotes work parties to those documented in the Club Book.

Sunday 19th January @ 9:00am

Sunday 26th January @ 9:00am

Both are to complete work finishing the road side pegs and adding structure and fish holding features to the lake. Equipment required will be shovels and spades, with wellies/waders essential. Plenty of buckets also be needed.

Due to time constraints this will be our last chance to make any significant changes to the venue before water is diverted back into the lake.

If possible please let us know via the usual channels, details in the book, so we can gauge the numbers ASAP.

Chris Simpson will be leading both WPs

More Forum News - A chance to have your say!

Hopefully members will be hitting the shops to renew their DNMAC membership as soon as possible with this in mind we have created a new sub-forum “Club Discussions” to allow members to tell us what they think we should be doing at the Club and submit any ideas they have. For those that can’t get to the meeting this is a great opportunity to have your say in which direction the club should be moving.

The forum is open to all Club members
