Watford Lodge 26/06/14

With near perfect conditions the Lodge fished well with most anglers catching mixed nets. The bream though continued to frustrate cruising around but refusing to feed but the crucians and tench were on the bottom, feeding well on smaller baits like maggots and worms. Pete Lally made it 2 on the trot drawing the same peg as his previous week’s victory, peg 1. Pete fished worm up against the floating islands to catch quality roach, perch, tench and crucians.

1st Pete Lally 10lb 7oz
2nd Steve Rowe 5lb 1oz
3rd Ben fowler 4lb 13oz

The next match on Birch Vale has been cancelled due to lack of interest. The next match on Watford Lodge is on Thursday 10th July.

New Mills Marina June 12th

With baking hot weather masses of people trudging up and down the tow path and zero movement on the canal this week’s evening match was going to be hard!!

The match started ok but quickly slowed up with most struggling though the middle of the match until the fishing picked up again towards the end of the session.

Tony Horton won with a nice net consisting of two good skimmers and smaller roach all caught on squat over dark groundbait.

1st Tony Horton 5lb 12oz
2nd Chris Simpson 2lb 8oz
3rd Darren Blaydon 2lb 1oz

The golden peg rolled over again and is building up nicely!

Next match is Tuesday 17th on Watford lodge to fish please book on with Chris 01663 734220

Watford Work Party

Work parties continue across various DNMAC waters.

This week saw peg and path improvements at Watford more lily planting and floating island installations.

Thanks to all who turned up but more help is always needed to keep the Club waters in the best possible conditions.

Watford Lodge 5th June Results

Fishing was hard for most but know nobody told Graham Howe who made it two on the bounce using similar tactics to last weeks win: long pole & pellet.

1st Graham Howe 11lb 8oz
2nd Steve Rowe 2lb 14oz
3rd Darren Blaydon 2lb 4oz

Next week the match is on the canal at New Mills Marina to book on please ring Chris 01663 734220

Watford Lodge Lilies

After gathering the large number of lilies the previous week and the subsequent planting at Strines, Disley and Bowden there was enough left to try introducing plants at Watford Lodge.
Because most of the shallower areas of Watford comprise of stone bedding, hessian sacks were filled with a mix of clay, soil and compost to try and give the plants every chance of establishing themselves. In the past growing plants at Watford has never been easy so fingers crossed we will see some positive results.

Sixteen sacks were planted and distributed with the majority of these located on the road side.

Strines update

After, reducing the water, water lilies have now all been planted into the central tyre columns at Dovecotes and the water allowed to fill to normal levels on the 2nd June. There will be plenty of  spots which are sure to be great areas to target, hopefully you would of noted these when the levels were down!

The bloodworm life is also very impressive considering how long the pond was drained for.

A cooler spell in the weather saw weights rise as the smaller Tench and Crucians went off the feed and the lakes resident larger bream came into play.

1st Graham Howe 13lb 10oz
2nd Darren Blaydon 9lb 8oz
3rd Ben Fowler 3lb 14oz

The golden peg rolled on.......
